Theatre maker and actor Bavo Buys (they/them) graduates from KASK (Ghent) in June 2024 and is immediately awarded the Playright+ prize, an accolade for final-year students who have distinguished themselves in a special way. During their internship in Luanda Casella’s Elektra Unbound, Bavo already stood out for their exceptional craft and stage presence. Around the same time, they appeared in the feminist comedy Up Your Ass (Nona Demey Gallagher & Lieselot Siddiki) and were nominated for the Acteursgilde Theatre Prize in the under-35 category.
Bavo creates while performing and performs while creating; their work weaves together references to both new media and classical texts, creating an immersive universe characterized by sharp language, precise physicality, and dynamic performance. A recurring theme in their practice is the concept of the limitlessly genderless performer.
GOOD COMPANY supports Bavo in the development and touring of Wild Narcissus, their first solo performance. In Wild Narcissus, Bavo Buys introduces their new alter ego, Narcissus. The performance blends plot, documentary elements, personal confessions, and social media into a critical yet manipulative solo that both indicts and celebrates our narcissistic society. Wild Narcissus reveals the ephemeral yet destructive power of youth, beauty, and self-preservation.
Drawing inspiration from sources such as the myth of Narcissus, the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, and alter egos in contemporary pop culture (think Sasha Fierce, Ziggy Stardust), Bavo explores the darker side of human nature in their own theatrical production for the first time. In September 2025, Bavo was awarded the Sabam Prize at Het TheaterFestival. Wild Narcissus premiered at VIERNULVIER in Ghent on May 29 and 30, 2026. The production will tour during the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 seasons and will get an English version.
